Let’s Talk About Depression…

Just under twelve weeks ago I wrote a blog post called “Let’s Talk About Mental Health…” where I spoke openly about my journey, and at times battle, with my own mental health and in particular my depression.

In the post, I spoke about how it is okay not to be okay and how we have to break the stigma around mental health. It made me realise that though I kept saying I was okay and completely fine, in reality, I was not being completely honest with myself. I was struggling and too afraid and proud to admit it.

So I waited a few weeks after speaking to my parents and sister about it before deciding to book a doctors appointment to see what my doctor thought. My doctor agreed with what I was thinking and we decided, together, that it was best for me to go back on my anti-depressants. He also suggested I looked into cognitive behavioural therapy to see if this would help me in the long run which is something I am going to do.

So why am I telling you all this? If it was my psoriasis or acne flaring up and causing me issues I would have no problem saying I need help in getting it under control again without thinking twice. I guess I feel it is important, to be honest about the fact I need help again with my mental health and in particular my depression. That is how we are going to break the stigma surrounding mental health right?

If my psoriasis started to come back or my acne decided to start flaring up again I would have no problem speaking openly about it and saying I need help in getting it under control. I guess I feel it is important, to be honest about the fact I need help again with my mental health and in particular my depression. That is how we are going to break the stigma surrounding mental health right?

So as I continue my journey with mental health, I will keep talking about it and keep you updated. Until next time…

Remember, It’s okay not to be okay.
